Artur Mendes

Born in Lisbon, Portugal, Artur is one of the current co-managers of Boom Festival and the Being Gathering – two transformational and change-making festivals.

His love for music led him to become active on the electronic music scene in Portugal in the mid 90s, and he has been involved with Boom since the early days as both a partygoer and as production staff.

He has a degree in social and organisational Psychology (ISCTE – University of Lisboa) and later started an MA in Culture Management. He has studied permaculture, ecovillage design, bio agriculture certifications, THNK School of Creative Leadership, and design thinking. Sports, meditation, and cultural journalism are part of his background. He is a member of the board of APEFE- Portuguese Association of Shows, Festivals and Events.

He has organised and curated events of several genres; worked on communications and media for outlets such as NEO2, Dance Club, DIF, Zoot, LuxFrágil, LeCool, Ling, Mini International, Yorn, etc; collaborated with TV programmes Pop Up for RTP (Portuguese national TV) and Fuzz for SIC; co-wrote/co-produced documentaries such as Lusofonia, A (R)Evolução, Boom Festival 20 Years and the books Boom Book and Boom Festival 20 Years: A Visual and Oral History. He was part of the curation and executive production of Red Bull Music Academy Portugal, and also for music releases for Red Bull Homegroove, Buraka Som Sistema/Red Bull, and Dance Club magazine, to name just a few.

Representing Boom, he has been a guest speaker in events such as Web Summit, ADE Green, Nuits Sonores, Green Events and Innovations, ADE Mumbai, CTM, Talk Fest, Green Operations, MIL Lisboa, BIME, Re:Build, Tartu 2024  European Capital of Culture, among others.

His purpose as a Boom team member is to positively affect people through initiatives that transform people and regenerate the land to awaken the subversive self of the Boomers so that they in turn can transform their communities when returning home.
